Reflecting back on
2012, I think about a year where love and support carried B and me through
personal losses and triumphs. We entered the year mourning the passing of B’s
mother, but surrounded by the warm embraces of loved ones. Despite his
grieving, B harnessed internal strength to reach the academic,
professional and athletic goals he’d set for himself. I also had some personal
successes (first 10K race, first painting project, a promotion) and failures
(like an atrocious attempt at gourmet mac & cheese). I cherished time with friends
and family, celebrating milestones or simply the joy of being in each other’s
company. I also made time for myself, whether it was rollerblading along the
canal on a warm summer evening or sipping fruity beer in Brussels during a solo
work trip. The year ended on a much happier note celebrating our engagement during a beautiful
Christmas with both our families. I can’t wait to see what 2013 has in store!
In keeping with my theme of doing something every year that intimidates me, I’m
going to take more control of my financial investments. I’m a prudent budgeter and
I understand the basics of investing, but I’ve left the management of my
savings to my dad for too long. For someone with a BComm, it’s a bit shameful
for me to reveal this on my blog, but I’m looking forward to the confidence
that will come with more self-sufficiency.

This outfit is one I
wore back in December for a holiday gathering, but I saw no reason to put away
the sparkle just because the holidays are over!

The outfit is sparkly but it doesn't rival your smile. Thanks for your warm comments. It has been a tough year but I'll get through it one way or another. Attitude is everything. Good luck in 2013

Ah ha, more inspiration! (I have a jacket just like this and the one thing I haven't done it wear it with pants. I love the idea of a tough jacket with jeans and a sparkly shirt.)
ReplyDeleteWe have our retirement accounts and a few little investments, but there's SO much I don't know about that sort of thing, it seems a little overwhelming at times. Kudos to you for taking charge of yours!
