Ottawa Strong

After the events in Ottawa this week (and in Quebec a few days prior) it seems fitting that I should be wearing red in this post. The attack hit close to home, literally and figuratively. I was one of the lucky ones: in lockdown at the office, thinking of those working in the face of danger and uncertainty to administer aid, restore safety to our city or bring information to those of us clinging to any scrap of news.

From the outpouring of love and support for Cpl. Nathan Cirillo on his final journey home (the photos that will make you cry can be seen here), to this man who took it upon himself to stand guard for hours at Kingston's war memorial, to the resilience of our country's institutions and citizens, the response in the days since has made me proud to be Canadian. This editorial, written by a friend's husband, sums up the sentiments I've heard echoed on social media and in conversations with friends and family.

And because the best way to honour our country is to keep calm and carry on, I'll be make soon with lighter fare: honeymoon outfits!

xx

  1. I thought of you this week, Kat - glad to know that you're safe and that what I'm sure was a very scary day if you were nearby hasn't dampened your spirits so much as to keep you from blogging. Red is a beautiful colour on you!
